Carina and Frank met in October 2016 in Manhattan. It started off as just another stereotypical millennial story of two busy people meeting online. Their first date was at Maya, a local Mexican place close to Carina's apartment on the UES. Frank drove into the city from Long Island where he lived at the time to meet her, and was stunned when he first saw Carina walk in. She was late in usual fashion, but he was just thankful he didn't get catfished. They had the usual guarded conversations one would have on a first date, not really getting to know one another.
While walking her home, Frank knew he had to do better so she wouldn't slip away after such a mediocre first date. He convinced her to go to a local sports bar to get to know each other more and they hit it off! He found out she is a huge NY Rangers fan and they watched the rest of the hockey game. Needless to say they continued to see each other and their relationship flourished. They amplified each other's desire to travel and began going on trips together. So far, they have visited Sydney, Barcelona, and Paris. Frank proposed on May 18, 2018 during their trip to Barcelona. Their engagement photos were shot in Paris.
Frank proposed by the mountains near Montserrat Monastery during their day trip from Barcelona, Spain. After Mass at the Monastery, Carina was hungry and thought she smelled fries from somewhere, so she kept gravitating towards the restaurants for lunch. Frank convinced her to walk in the opposite direction down a path towards the mountains, promising a "scenic and natural view". She begrudgingly headed over with him, because as everyone knows, nothing gets in between Carina and her fries.
Frank found a quiet spot without as many tourists, and professed his love for her before getting down on one knee. Carina was shocked. Ever the pragmatist, she said "OMG, you brought the ring to Barcelona?! Pick-pocketing capital of the world?!!" before collecting herself and joyously saying "Yes!" to his proposal.
We found a fellow tourist to help us capture the moment. Unfortunately, he was not very tech-savvy and Frank was left kneeling for a long time as he tried to figure out how to work the iPhone camera. Luckily his wife stepped in and helped us take a few photos! -Carina & Frank
