Betty & John's wedding at Jericho Terrace | Mineola, NY

John and I grew up in the same neighborhood, went to the same high school, and even ended up at the same college in Buffalo. Although we went to the same school, we never had class together. And even though we had mutual friends, we never met each other. Throughout the years, we must have walked by each other countless times but never had the opportunity to speak. Our story together starts in 2009, we had just started our sophomore year and coincidentally ended up in the same residence hall.

Normally I wouldn’t believe in fate but it is hard to believe that life was once again giving us another chance to be together. We are still not exactly sure how it happened or who made the first move. It began with us exchanging screen names and chatting on AIM. Then we started to spend time together, and it wasn’t long until he officially asked me to be his girlfriend. From that moment forward we were inseparable.

Fast forward eight years later, we had spent most of our college days together, graduated with the same degree, and finally settled into our jobs. Now that we were no longer in college, John wanted to celebrate my birthday at a nice restaurant. He managed to get reservations to the number one restaurant in the world - Eleven Madison Park. He knew that this had been on my bucket list for the longest time and needless to say I was ecstatic.

The day had finally come, we arrived at the restaurant a couple minutes early and was escorted to a waiting area as they “prepared our table”. As time passed, I was getting a bit impatient as it was unusual for a michelin starred restaurant to keep us waiting for so long. I wasn’t sure what we were waiting for but I would eventually come to realized that we were waiting for John. After what must have seemed like an eternity, John finally mustered up all his courage and got down on one knee and asked me to marry him. He caught me by surprise, I knew it was happening but at the moment I was overcome with emotions and I did not hear a single word he said. All I remember was crying tears of joy and answering "Yes!".

On December 8, 2018, we started the next chapter of our lives together. We celebrated with our friends and family at Jericho Terrace in Mineola, New York. It was an unforgettable night filled with laughing, eating, drinking, and lots of dancing. It was truly one of the best nights of our lives. We can't wait to see what our next adventure will be as husband and wife. - Betty
